Zeko goes to the occasional dog show, though she is another one who much prefers staying at home. Dog Shows come a definite second to walks in the bush with her “mum” by her side. She is the “talker” of the clan and will always volunteer an opinion to anyone who will listen!! She has gathered points towards her title and was awarded Best Headed Bitch at the Rhodesian Ridgeback Open Show in November, 2002.

Akeela believes she is a Ridgeback, which to her, means hunting dog. She spies the “prey” and immediately springs into action - unfortunately, she is so excited she begins barking and the “prey”, given fair warning, make their escape !! The real Ridgebacks return in disgust !! The Ridgebacks now leave it up to her to be the guard dog and it is always her bark you can hear when a stranger visits - they figure it is not necessary to expend energy when you don’t have to.
Age and ailments finally caught up with this wonderful old girl and the decision was made to put an end to her pain. She endeared herself to all our Visitors by pushing against their hands insisting they pay her attention and not the Ridgies. She is buried next to her “daddy” and best mate, Kumalo (photo of them both on our front page) RIP Blackie, keep on chasin’ those Bunnies !! |
